Dr. Mahesh Nalla was quoted in a recent New York Times article entitles “Violent Arrest at Century 21 Casts Spotlight on Security Guards“. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than 16 security guards for every 10 police officers in the United States.
But there are no federal regulations governing how those guards are trained and licensed, said Dr. Nalla. “Most states don’t have very stringent requirements,” Nalla said. “It’s economics. If a state imposes stringent regulations for training, someone has to bear the cost for training. Not all security guard companies will remain in a competitive position to be able to do that.”
