The Spartan Newsroom recently ran an article titled Two Police Forces in East Lansing Work Together to Ensure Public Safety. The article takes a look at how the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) and the Michigan State University Police Department (MSUPD) work together to ensure the safety of both MSU and East Lansing as a whole. To discuss some of the benefits of having two police departments in such close proximity who have separate jurisdictions but often work together, The Spartan Newsroom turned to Criminal Justice Professor David Carter.
Discussing the ELPD and MSUPD, David Carter mentioned that “they’ve historically had a good solid relationship” and that “it’s understood, it’s reciprocal, it frankly is cheaper for example for East Lansing if they don’t have to have a police force dedicated to dealing with calls and traffic and security at the university.”
