Dr. Holt and Brenna Helm Receive Award

Dr. Karen Holt & Brenna Helm have received the 2021-2022 Creating Inclusive Excellence Grant! They will use the $15,000 funding to create and sustain an inclusive community within the School of Criminal Justice. Specifically, the funding will be used to to invest and support the existing School of Criminal Justice Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in their effort to create a culture that supports retention, safety, and well-being of members of underrepresented groups in the School.

Currently, the School of Criminal Justice has the largest population of minoritized students in the College of Social Science. Dr. Holt and Brenna Helm hope to utilize these funds to create a sense of community among the undergraduate and graduate student populations. Along with other efforts, the Committee will hold "Social Justice Thursday" on the first Thursday of each month. These events will provide opportunities for members of the SCJ community to engage with DEI issues using the power of stories, films, and art.
