Dr. Tom Holt, has been named the Director of the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University.
As the ninth Director, Dr. Holt takes the helm at an unprecedented time in the School's history as we currently face the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, Dr. Holt says "it is an honor to be able to take on what is perhaps the greatest service role within the School. I look forward to the opportunity to work with all of you over the next few years."
Dr. Holt joined the School of Criminal Justice in 2008 as an Assistant Professor, and became a Full Professor in 2016. Dr. Holt received his PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri - St. Louis in 2005. Since then he has co-founded the American Society of Criminology's Division on Cybercrime; organized the MSU Interdisciplinary Conference on Cybercrime; and serves as Director of the International Interdisciplinary Research Consortium on Cybercrime (IIRCC). He has authored or co-authored over 70 peer reviewed journal articles, books, and technical reports; served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on multiple grants and contracts across the globe; and has mentored graduate students at MSU and abroad.
Dr. Holt's research focuses on computer hacking, malware, and the role of the Internet in facilitating all manner of crime and deviance. His work has been published in various journals including Crime and Delinquency, Deviant Behavior, the Journal of Criminal Justice, and Terrorism and Political Violence.
