Fiona Chan, a Graduate Student in the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice, was recently awarded funding from the Department of Justice/National Institute of Justice for her research project titled Enhancing Corporate Crime Enforcement with Machine Learning - A Multidisciplinary Risk Factor Approach.
Through this project, Fiona says she is "hoping to overcome some of the challenges that are associated with corporate crime data by leveraging advancements in the field of artificial intelligence." More specifically, her goal is to develop a machine learning algorithm to predict and distinguish which corporations have committed financial fraud from those who have not. Fiona's algorithm will be trained using a set of multidisciplinary risk/protective factors that she will gather from multiple fields of study including accountancy, information systems, and linguistics.
